One more finished!

Forrest's new sweater

Here is chubby Forrest in his new sweater.  He is hoping I don't make him go outside for a walk.  John says he looks like an armadillo.

One more down

One more Christmas present completed.  This one is for my minister son and his wife.  I didn't follow any pattern.  It's just super easy granny squares with a border and a few flowers, but I think they'll like it.

My truly ugly afghan

Truly ugly afghan
Originally uploaded by grannysquare1
This is the scrap yarn afghan I made during the Bernat Mystery Afghan CAL. It's really awful. LOL I tried an experiment of grabbing yarn without thinking about color. This mess is the result. I went ahead and put it together because my husband likes it. At least it's nice and warm and probably indestructible. Anything this ugly will last forever.

block 6 and addi hook

block 6 and addi hook

These are the eight blocks I did for the Mystery CAL. The purple ones are for John's scrap afghan, and the cream ones are done in the "called-for" yarn. The hook is my new Addi hook. I think I'm going to like it a lot. I learned years ago to hold my hook like a pencil, but I'm trying to change my hold to the knife method. It's seems to be easier on the hands. This hook style is perfect for that. Not so much for the pencil method.

Mystery afghan continued

I've finished the 16 blocks I needed for clue 3 and the 8 blocks for clue 4.  I'm doing two afghans, one scrappy and one with the recommended yarn.  I think this fellow has staked his claim.  He's on top of the scrappy blocks and a shawl I just finished but haven't yet blocked.

Blocks one and two done

Scrappy blocks

Bernat Softee Chunky
These are blocks one and two for the Bernat 2010 Mystery Afghan crochet-along.  I'm doing two afghans.  One is with the recommended Bernat Softee chunky yarn, and the other is with scrap yarns.  The first two squares were super easy, but the difficulty will increase each week.    Also, there are 48 eight-inch squares to do in the 12 week period.  So as the squares get more complicated, we'll be doing more per week.  My goal is to have two afghan's completed before Christmas.  I still need to finish Dad's African flower afghan before then too.

Great no-chain turn dc

I found this great tutorial on a no-chain turn double-crochet stitch.  I hate the normal loopy 3 chain turns and this method stops that.    tutorial

Bernat Mystery CAL

On September 22, Bernat yarn company is holding a mystery crochet-along.  These are the colors I've selected to use.  Each week we'll get a new pattern clue.  I'll be sharing my progress as the weeks go by.  If everything goes okay, I'll have a nice afghan before Christmas.  Here's a link to the CAL.  http://blog.bernat.com/

The last flowers

The last flowers blooming in the yard.  My camera finally arrived in the mail today.  I'm testing it out and, so far, I think it will be fine.  I still need to learn how all the programs work though.  I'm glad it's just a point and shoot.  It's complicated enough.
